Reflections of a Fourth Generation Resident:

My husband and I celebrated 30 plus years of marriage in 2019. We have lived in Perry County our entire lives. We raised our children in this county where they attended elementary through twelfth grade and graduated. They went onto have successful careers, have married, and are raising children of their own. They also have homes in Perry County. As another generation of our family has arrived, we are enjoying being an active part of our grandchildren’s lives. We enjoy living in Perry County for many reasons including the small schools where children have attentive teachers and small class sizes. The extracurricular activities at the schools, including sports, have provided hours of fun over the years and continue to do so. We like living in a comfortable rural setting with neighbors close enough if we need them but far enough away to provide us with plenty of privacy. To give one example of this peaceful lifestyle, I watched a Mama dear and her fawn from my kitchen window as I enjoyed my morning cup of coffee.

Perry County offers a variety of resources for residents and visitors alike. The resources include parks and recreation sites; specialty shops and services. Country living opportunities make Perry County an ideal location for new and established residents.

I have served on the Perry County Economic Development Authority Committee for 15 plus years. When I first began to serve as a member, the committee had no focus or purpose. Several years and many committee meetings have passed and now we have focus and purpose as stated so well in our mission statement. “Acting as a steward, the Authority will facilitate economic development that preserves and enhances the quality of life for Perry County.” I am grateful and honored to serve on this committee with so many loyal and passionate members all working to make Perry County an outstanding place to live and own a business for the benefit of residents and visitors.

Some people do leave Perry County but usually they find their way back again. My sisters have moved to Virginia but they love coming back to Perry County as often as possible. This is where their hearts return; to Perry County – The Place we all call HOME!
